Tangier to Marrakech Tour Itinerary

Day-by-day plan of this private desert tour from Tangier to Marrakech, over 9 days.

Day 1 · Arrival in Tangier

This tour crosses Morocco in 9 days, from Tangier and the Rif to the High Atlas, the Sahara and Marrakech. When you arrive in Tangier, your driver takes you to your hotel to rest. If you have time, you can discover Tangier with its mix of Moroccan culture and European influence: drive along the coast to the Hercules caves and Cap Spartel, see the Kasbah with its 17th century walls and large square, and walk through the Grand Socco market, with its fruit and spices.

After breakfast we drive towards Casablanca by way of Asilah, a small coastal town inside its old walls, with narrow streets, white houses, blue or green shutters and wrought iron gates. Then we continue to Rabat, the capital, to visit the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and Chellah. After a lunch break we explore Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco: its busy streets, the Hassan II mosque, Mohammed V square and the United Nations square.

After breakfast your driver picks you up at your hotel in Casablanca and drives you to Fes by way of Meknes. We stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis, then continue to the holy town of Moulay Idriss, where you can have lunch, before driving on to Meknes, the city of Moulay Ismail from the 17th century. There we visit Bab Mansour, the Heri es Souani granaries, the old medina and El Hedim square. Then we continue to Fes for a Fassi tajine for dinner and the night in a traditional riad.

Today we explore Fes, the oldest of the imperial cities. We start with the old medina, one of the largest walled medinas in the world, with its narrow streets lined with fresh fruit, spices, woven Berber carpets and crafts. We visit the Qarawiyyin mosque, the Nejjarine fountain, the medersas, Koranic schools built from the 13th century, the Batha palace, now a museum of arts and traditions, the Chouara tannery, where you see how leather is made and dyed, the Attarine souk and the Bab Boujloud gate with its blue and green tiles. You can have lunch in a traditional restaurant in the medina with a view over the city, and we take you back to your riad in the evening for dinner.

We pick you up early in the morning for the drive to the Sahara. The road crosses the Middle Atlas, where the snowy peaks of the High Atlas slowly come into view, with stops to see the Berber villages and their way of life. Our first stop is Ifrane, the Moroccan Switzerland, for its calm and clean air, then Azrou and its cedar forest, where you may see the Barbary macaques. In Midelt you can have a Berber lunch, and then we follow the Ziz Valley to Erfoud, past oases in the middle of the desert. In Merzouga you have some rest, then go out to watch the sunset over the high dunes of Erg Chebbi. Back at the Berber camp there is music, medfouna for dinner and Sahara tea, and you sleep in a nomad tent under the stars.

We wake you early for a camel ride at sunrise, then ride back to the camp through the quiet of the Sahara. After breakfast we continue to Ouarzazate, visiting the Berber villages of the Todra Gorge and driving through the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses. This region is known for its villages of mud brick houses and old fortified kasbahs. We arrive in Ouarzazate in the evening.

After an early breakfast we explore Ouarzazate and its film studios, where films and series such as Gladiator, Prison Break and Game of Thrones were made. Then we visit the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, before taking the road to Marrakech over the Tizi n’Tichka pass. These towns grew rich in the Middle Ages with the trade across the Sahara that linked Marrakech to the kingdoms south of the desert. We reach Marrakech late in the evening, check into your hotel and can have tanjia, the local speciality, for dinner.

Today is a full day with a guide in Marrakech, to discover the history, art and culture of the walled red city. We visit the minaret of the Koutoubia mosque, the symbol of Marrakech, built in the Almohad style and topped with four copper globes. Then the Ben Youssef medersa, the old Islamic college named after the Almoravid sultan Ali ibn Yusuf. We walk through the alleys of the medina and the craft quarters, including the leather market, and the traditional souks, then visit the Bahia Palace. The day ends on Jemaa el Fna square, with its musicians, storytellers, snake charmers and food stalls.

Your driver takes you to Marrakech airport.

Morocco highlights

A very enjoyable and hassle-free 10-day private tour covering Asilah, Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fes, Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, and Essaouira. Thank you to Siu Ha @ Fez Luxury Tour for the perfect arrangements! Our driver, Hafid, moved us between cities safely in a clean and comfortable new van whist sharing fascinating history and culture along the drive. The tour also included local guides who showed us around the Medinas in Fes and Marrakech, successfully leading us through the mazes! Without them, we might have been stuck in there forever. 😅 This was a fantastic taster of Morocco. If I return to Morocco in the future, I will definitely use Fez Luxury Tour service again, using Marrakech as a base, and to include an overnight stay in the Sahara Desert!

It's an excellent arrangement from Casablanca ,Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fez, Sahara desert, Dade valley and then Marrakech. A very comfortable, air- con , new big 7-seated car with a friend- like driver-guide,Ayoub Kara, who explains the local things and culture to us . Desert trip is a good experience with camel ride , Atv bike. there are lots of attraction in between and last stop of desert trip at Stars Hotel in Dade valley with swimming pool is a relaxing experience after desert trip Everything was really well‑organised with a balance of pacing throughout our private-tour trip. The desert luxury camp and Sahara Stars Dade Valley were thoughtfully arranged, and our driver‑guide shared plenty of local insights that helped us learn more about Morocco and its culture. 4 days Luxury tour from Fes to Marrakesh

The whole experience was excellent, it was stress free and easy. From booking to pick up, tour and hotels were all excellent. Our driver/guide Ayoub was very helpful and accommodating. He was a very thoughtful and careful driver. He explained things, culture and places of interests to us throughout the trip. He also goes out of his way to help us at the end of our tour when getting to the hotel that I booked myself in Marrakesh . We did have a different guide on the second day of the desert doing the 4x4 expereince and he was also excellent. I highly recommend booking with Fes Luxury tour and using their service. Their cars were very comfortable and clean. It makes life so much easier. The hotel choices were also very good. Thank you for making our trip so much more enjoyable and stress free for us. If it hadn't been with Ayoub, I don't think we would had been able to navigate through the mayhem of the Rissini Sunday Market, it was interesting to see a real local market in action from farm cattles to produce to herbs to Toys, clothes , artesanía and daily white goods. What an eye opener.

Enjoyable and wonderful tour

We started our holiday in Seville and took the ferry from Tarifa, Spain to Tangier, Morocco. We found out not many private tours starting from Tangier. Luckily we found that Fes Luxury Tour has that service. We received quick response from the manager. She asked our plan and organized a stress free itinerary for us. Even though we spent a long time on the road, the car is comfortable and the driver was driving carefully on the whole 6 days’ journey. We are very happy for the tour and have no hesitation to recommend their services.

12-days private tour in Morocco

Thank you to Siu Ha @ Fez Luxury Tour for the perfect arrangements! We thoroughly enjoyed our 12-days private tour in Morocco. Every attraction was unforgettable, especially riding ATVs and camels, and seeing a sky full of stars in the Sahara Desert. Each Riad and hotel had its own unique charm, and the staff were all extremely friendly. A huge shout-out to our driver, Hafid, his driving skills were exceptional. The seats in the van were clean and very comfortable, making the whole trip enjoyable for all of us. Even though the long-distance drives were lengthy, we didn't feel uncomfortable at all. On the road, various unexpected situations arose, but his high level of skill helped us avoid potential accidents, and his safe driving gave us absolute peace of mind. Although our trip to Morocco has come to an end, we are still reminiscing about the wonderful memories. Highly recommended!
